Death of Pilot Marat Mambetov

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: On October 1, 2023, Ukrainian MiG-29 pilot Marat Mambetov lost his life while carrying out a combat mission. His aircraft was struck by a Russian missile during a missile and bomb strike targeting enemy forces along the frontline. Although Mambetov ejected, he did not survive the incident.

Marat Mambetov served as a flight commander in the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, famously known as the "Ghost of Kyiv." This title represents the group of pilots from the Vasylkiv-based 40th Brigade who defended the skies over Ukraine’s capital during the conflict. In 2024, President Volodymyr Zelensky officially honored the brigade with the prestigious name "Ghost of Kyiv."

The Ukrainian Air Force expressed deep condolences to Mambetov’s family and loved ones, stating:

“He defended Ukraine until his very last breath.”

The loss of Mambetov is a profound blow to his unit and nation, which continues its determined struggle for sovereignty.
