The Remarkable Journey of Mary Riss

According to Главком: Mary Riss, a 107-year-old resident of Meriden, Connecticut, was recognized as the honorary guest at the city’s Remembrance Day event. She holds the distinction of being the oldest living person in Meriden. Born in Caribou, Maine, she moved to Connecticut in 1940 at age 20 after her parents helped pay for her train ticket. Initially, she lived with her niece in Plainville and assisted with childcare.

In August 1941, Mary married Nick Riss. The couple had three children: Robert, Nicholas, and Joyce. The family later relocated to Meriden, where Mary became deeply involved in community activities. When asked about the secret to her longevity, she shares:

“Many people find it hard to believe I’m 107. They always ask for my secret. I tell them I go to bed early, wake up at six every morning without an alarm, eat three meals a day with no junk food, and stay very active.”

Mary also emphasizes her love for people and the joy she finds in social interaction. Her energy and optimism serve as an inspiration to others. For context, another notable figure in the field of health is Dr. Howard Tucker, who was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest practicing doctor. Dr. Tucker worked as a neurologist for over 75 years and continued seeing patients until his hospital closed in 2022. He passed away in 2025 at the age of 103.

The Power of an Active Lifestyle

Mary Riss’s story stands as a powerful testament to longevity and the benefits of staying engaged. Her life underscores the importance of an active routine, strong social ties, and healthy eating habits. Her participation in community events shows how vital it is to remain involved regardless of age. Such stories can encourage younger generations to adopt healthier lifestyles and maintain close connections with those around them.
