Ukraine's 2026 Healthcare Admissions Cycle

According to Міністерство Здоров'я: Fifteen higher education institutions overseen by the Ministry of Health are offering a total of 9,244 state-funded slots in the 2026 admissions campaign to train medical professionals. These government-sponsored positions break down as follows: 2,955 for bachelor's programs, 799 for master's programs requiring a prior bachelor's degree, and 5,490 for master's programs open to applicants with full secondary education.

Ukraine's ongoing war and the lingering effects of the pandemic have intensified the need for skilled medical personnel, making this admissions cycle particularly significant.

This year, new specializations are drawing considerable interest:

• nutrition
• prosthetics-orthotics
• speech and language therapy

For the first time, Lviv Danylo Halytsky National Medical University and Ternopil I. Horbachevsky National Medical University are accepting students for bachelor's degrees in nutrition. Starting in 2024, four institutions-including LNMU and TNMU-will begin training master's students in prosthetics-orthotics. Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University plans to launch a master's program in speech and language therapy in 2025.

Most In-Demand Medical Specialties

As of July 27, 2026, the specialty 'Medicine' received the highest number of applications for state-funded places: 11,167. Other popular fields include 'Therapy and Rehabilitation' (5,127 applications), 'Dentistry' (4,758), 'Pharmacy' (1,287), and 'Nursing' (962). This strong interest underscores the continued relevance of healthcare professions in Ukraine.
