Major Agri-Food Sector Study Set for Kyiv Presentation on August 11

On August 11, 2026, Kyiv will host the presentation of “The Future of Ukraine’s Agri-Food Sector: Competitiveness, European Integration, and Domestic Market Development.” At this session, the Civitta team will reveal the results of an extensive study into the agri-food economy. The research, conducted together with partners, included an economic assessment of the sector, a look at international experience, and consultations with officials, business leaders, associations, financial institutions, research organizations, and international partners.

Ukraine still ranks among the leading global exporters of sunflower oil, maize, and wheat, yet much of its agricultural export volume is made up of raw commodities. As part of the event, a panel discussion titled “From Raw-Material Exports to a Competitive Sector in the EU: What Needs to Change Today?” will address this challenge. Key topics include:

• Raising the share of high-value-added products in export volumes;
• Getting producers ready to operate under EU single-market rules;
• Identifying the government decisions that are most urgently needed;
• Expanding financial tools and investment options for the sector;
• Opening up EU integration opportunities to small and medium-sized producers.

Event Program

Beyond the panel, the program features four practical workshops:

• “Access to Markets” will look at shifting from raw-material exports to higher-value products, exploring demand data, entering new markets, and plugging into European supply chains.
• “Access to Finance” will cover instruments for modernizing production, expanding processing capacity, rebuilding damaged facilities, and scaling up operations.
• In the “Access to Information” session, participants will identify the data they need on markets, prices, demand, EU standards, and support programs to make better decisions.
• The “Regulatory Environment” workshop will address how to combine legislative harmonization with on-the-ground rule enforcement at the producer level, reduce administrative barriers, and adapt to EU requirements.

The event will take place from 10:00 to 14:00, both onsite and online. It is aimed at agricultural producers, processing companies, community representatives and local government associations, industry and business associations, development partners, think tanks, and experts. The event is organized under the project “Study of Ukraine’s Agricultural Sector Economy in the Context of EU Integration, Global Food Security, Critical Knowledge Gaps, and Recommendations,” funded by the European Union and implemented by Landell Mills in cooperation with International Economics and Civitta. Participant suggestions will be incorporated as the study’s recommendations are finalized.

This gathering offers a vital platform for discussing how Ukraine’s agri-food sector can transform itself, particularly in light of European integration and the push for greater competitiveness.

Given that raw materials still make up a large part of Ukraine’s export mix, the discussions at this event could serve as a catalyst for changing how Ukrainian agriculture produces and sells abroad-boosting the national economy in the process. Any recommendations that emerge from the event have the potential to shape Ukraine’s future agricultural policy strategy.
