Omelyan Herasymchuk Breaks World Record in Pole Vault

According to Рубрика: At just 13 years old, Omelyan Herasymchuk soared to a new world record in the under-14 pole vault category by clearing 4.70 meters during the Ukrainian Team Championships held in Lviv on October 3–4, 2026. The event took place at the Skif Stadium, where representing Donetsk region, Herasymchuk delivered a performance that captivated the athletics community.

Prior to this championship, Omelyan already held the world best for under-13 athletes with a vault of 4.22 meters, achieved in 2025. Throughout 2026, he showed remarkable improvement, pushing his personal best first to 4.40 meters, then to 4.50 meters. At the Lviv competition, he confidently cleared 4.20, 4.30, and 4.40 meters on his initial attempts, setting the stage for his record-breaking jumps.

Competition Highlights and Milestones

While his closest competitor managed a height of 4.10 meters, Herasymchuk raised the bar significantly. He surpassed 4.55 meters on his second try, marking a new personal record. Then, after three attempts, he successfully vaulted 4.67 meters, exceeding the previous world record of 4.65 meters for under-14 athletes, which had stood since 2015 and was held by Norway's Paul Haugen Lillefoss. Ultimately, Omelyan achieved 4.70 meters on his third try, shattering both his personal and the global standard for his age group. Over the course of just one year, he improved his personal best by an impressive 48 centimeters.

Beyond this incredible feat, Herasymchuk also secured national titles in Ukraine for the under-16 and under-18 categories, both indoors and outdoors, throughout 2026. His athletic development has been guided by his parents and coaches, Natalia Zabrodska and Artur Herasymchuk, whose dedication has been pivotal to his success.
