Ukraine Weather Alert: Fog and Icing on Roads Expected for January 19
Weather Forecast for Ukraine on January 19, 2023
According to Главком: On January 19, 2023, Ukraine will experience variable cloudiness with no significant precipitation expected. The primary hazards will be widespread fog and icy road conditions. The only exception is Crimea, where a light snowfall is forecast. Overnight lows will range from -15°C to -20°C (5°F to -4°F), while daytime highs will be between -8°C and -13°C (18°F to 9°F).
Weather Forecast for Kyiv
In Kyiv, temperatures will drop to -15°C to -17°C (5°F to 1°F) overnight, with daytime highs reaching only -10°C to -12°C (14°F to 10°F). Winds will be variable in direction, blowing at 3-8 m/s. This severe cold spell is driven by a powerful Siberian anticyclone, which is expected to bring the peak of the freeze with nighttime temperatures plunging as low as -25°C (-13°F). Such deep winter conditions are not uncommon for the region at this time of year. However, a gradual moderation of the frost is anticipated by the weekend.
The ongoing influence of the Siberian high-pressure system continues to dictate harsh winter weather across Ukraine, significantly increasing the risk of dangerous travel due to ice. Despite the intense cold, forecasts indicate that temperatures will begin to rise by the end of the week, which should improve road conditions and reduce cold-related hazards.
