In a day marked by 234 frontline engagements, Ukraine's military reports killing 1,500 Russian troops

In its morning report for August 2, 2026, the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces said the situation on the front had escalated, with 234 combat engagements recorded during the past day. The hardest-hit areas were the Sloviansk, Kostiantynivka, Pokrovsk, and Southern Slobozhanskyi directions. Russian forces carried out two missile strikes involving 31 missiles, as well as 91 aerial strikes during which they dropped 298 guided bombs.

According to the General Staff, Russian troops used 11,083 kamikaze drones and opened fire 3,343 times on Ukrainian populated areas and defensive lines. Among the attacks was an airstrike on the area around the village of Zelenyi Hai in Sumy Oblast.

In response, Ukraine's defense forces hit:

• 15 areas where enemy personnel were concentrated
• one UAV control point
• one command-and-observation post

Russian losses on August 1, 2026 alone were put at 1,500 troops, 1,788 UAVs, and 69 artillery systems. Since the full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022, Russian forces' total combat losses have reached roughly 1,449,120 personnel as of August 2, 2026.

Continued fighting on the front

Fighting continues on multiple axes. On the Northern Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, Ukrainian troops stopped four assault attempts, while the enemy launched four airstrikes involving 12 guided bombs and conducted 61 shellings, including four from multiple launch rocket systems. On the Southern Slobozhanskyi direction, 21 attacks were repelled.

No enemy assault actions were recorded on the Kupiansk direction. Ukrainian forces repelled 16 attacks on the Lyman direction and 18 assault operations near Sloviansk. Russian forces attacked three times on the Kramatorsk direction, while 19 attacks were logged on the Kostiantynivka direction and 27 on the Pokrovsk direction, the highest number of assault actions in the past day.

Russian troops made four attacks on the Oleksandrivka direction and 14 on the Huliaipole direction. At the same time, no assault operations were reported on the Orikhiv or Pridniprovsk directions. On the Volyn and Poliske directions, no signs of enemy offensive groupings were detected.

The front-line situation remains highly strained, especially along the sectors where the enemy was most active. These figures point to sustained, intense combat and a high level of military pressure in the region. The heavy losses in Russian manpower and equipment underscore how brutal and drawn-out the war has become, raising concerns about further consequences for civilians and regional stability.
