According to Главком: Every year on May 24, Ukraine observes the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture, a holiday established by a Presidential Decree issued on September 17, 2004. The date honors Saints Cyril and Methodius, who created the Slavic alphabet based on Greek script. It is worth noting that as of September 1, 2023, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) adopted the New Julian calendar. As a result, the feast day for Cyril and Methodius now falls on May 11. These saints are credited with developing two alphabets: Glagolitic and Cyrillic.
