European Karate Championships Set for Cyprus
According to Спортивний комітет: The 53rd European Karate Championships for Cadets, Juniors, and U21 athletes will be held in Limassol, Cyprus, from February 6th to 8th. A total of 1,276 competitors from 47 European nations are set to participate, including a 35-member team representing Ukraine. Karate remains a popular and highly competitive sport across the continent, with these youth championships serving as a key talent pipeline.
Ukraine's National Team Roster
The Ukrainian squad was selected based on results from two qualifying events:
- The first was the Ukrainian National Championships, held in Lviv in November 2025.
- The second qualifier was the international Hayashi Amsterdam Cup tournament in December 2025.
Under the guidance of coach Dmytro Nehaturov, the team will aim to build on last year's success. At the 2025 Youth European Championships in Bielsko-Biała, Poland, Ukrainian athletes won 13 medals-4 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze-securing third place in the overall team standings. This strong performance has raised expectations for the team's potential in Cyprus.
This championship is a significant platform for young athletes to gain international experience and showcase their skills. The past achievements of the Ukrainian team highlight their high level of preparation and potential, generating considerable interest in their performance at this year's event. Success here could further boost the development of karate in Ukraine and help identify new talent for the future of the sport.
