Abu Dhabi to Host Talks on the Future of a 6,000 km² Donetsk Region

According to Главком: A planned trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi this Wednesday and Thursday will focus on the fate of a 6,000 square kilometer area in Ukraine's Donetsk region. This territory includes key cities like Kramatorsk and Sloviansk and is home to approximately 200,000 residents. The talks gain urgency as Russia currently occupies about 20% of Ukraine's territory, with this eastern region being a focal point of the ongoing war.

Military Escalation in the Region

The security situation in Donetsk has deteriorated sharply due to intensified military action. In January 2026 alone, Russian aircraft dropped over 5,700 guided aerial bombs, a record high since the war began. This surpassed the previous peak of over 5,300 bombs recorded in October 2025. A single-day record was also set on January 18, 2026, with 316 guided bombs dropped.

Furthermore, on the night of February 3, 2026, Russian forces launched a combined assault involving 521 separate air attack weapons. This dramatic escalation underscores the critical need for diplomatic intervention. The Abu Dhabi discussions are expected to address stability and security in Donetsk, exploring potential pathways to de-escalate the conflict. The international community is watching closely, as outcomes could significantly impact the war's trajectory and the safety of civilians caught in the crossfire.
