To ease terminal overcrowding, Chisinau Airport has begun constructing passenger canopies.
New Canopy Structures at Chisinau Airport
According to УНІАН — Туризм: Chisinau Airport-the only international airport in Moldova-has become a key transit hub for Ukrainians fleeing the war. In response to severe space constraints during the summer travel surge, work has started on installing shelters near the boarding gates. These simple but functional structures are designed for passengers waiting to board buses to their aircraft, helping to relieve pressure on the main terminal building. Each canopy will be equipped with lighting and air conditioning to ensure comfort.
Growing Transit Role and Infrastructure Upgrades
In April of this year, Ukraine's national railway, Ukrzaliznytsia, teamed up with Moldovan counterparts to launch a test train service to Revaca station, from which travelers can take a free shuttle directly to Chisinau Airport. If demand remains strong, the Kyiv-Chisinau route is expected to operate on a permanent basis. The new canopies reflect the airport's effort to improve passenger experience and adapt its facilities to increasing summer traffic. For many Ukrainians now relying on this airport as a transit point, these upgrades promise a more comfortable and efficient journey.
By addressing the lack of terminal space, Chisinau Airport aims to better serve the growing number of travelers, particularly those from neighboring Ukraine who have turned it into a vital connection point. This infrastructure improvement underscores the airport's commitment to handling peak-season demand smoothly.
As Chisinau Airport enhances its facilities to accommodate rising passenger numbers, travelers can also explore affordable bus options from Rivne to the city. This budget-friendly travel method not only provides new destinations but also complements the airport's efforts to streamline transit for those seeking efficient travel solutions.
