How Ukrainians can receive free rehabilitation from ZUS in Poland

Ukrainians working in Poland and insured with ZUS can undergo free medical rehabilitation. The program is designed for individuals whose ability to work is threatened due to illness, but treatment can help them return to work. This is reported by In Poland.

Rehabilitation from ZUS: who among Ukrainians is eligible for the program

Citizenship does not affect the right to use the program. A Ukrainian can receive a referral if they are officially employed under an employment contract or a commission agreement with social contributions being paid. Entrepreneurs registered as JDG may also have this right.

Applications can be submitted by insured employees, recipients of benefits due to illness or rehabilitation assistance, as well as individuals on temporary pensions due to incapacity for work. Employed retirees can also use the program if contributions are paid for them.

Referrals are most often provided to people with musculoskeletal disorders, heart conditions, respiratory problems, central nervous system issues, and voice apparatus disorders. The program also covers psychosomatic disorders, consequences of injuries, and post-breast cancer treatment conditions.

How to apply for free rehabilitation from ZUS

First, you need to contact the doctor who is providing treatment. The doctor is the one who fills out the PR-4 form with the diagnosis and an assessment of the chances of restoring work capability.

The completed application can be submitted personally to any ZUS branch or sent by mail. The doctor can also send it electronically via eZUS. Before the medical examination, it is advisable to prepare discharge summaries, test results, and other documents regarding the course of the illness.

The decision is made by a ZUS expert doctor or physiotherapist after examination or review of the documents. In case of approval, the applicant will receive a notification by mail with the location and date of the start of rehabilitation.

The standard course lasts 24 days, but it can be shortened or extended upon agreement with ZUS. The program can be inpatient, staying at the center, or outpatient.

ZUS covers the costs of treatment, procedures, accommodation, and meals. Travel expenses to and from the center are also reimbursed at the lowest public transport rate.

Having a PESEL UKR does not automatically grant rights to this program. The decisive factors are insurance with ZUS, the risk of loss of work capability, and a positive medical prognosis.
