How Ukrainians Abroad Can Earn Pension Insurance Experience in Ukraine

Ukrainians who are forced to stay abroad can continue to accrue insurance experience for their future pension. This concerns voluntary participation in pension insurance, which is available regardless of the country of residence and place of work. The Main Department of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in the Luhansk region writes about this.

This is especially important for people of pre-retirement age or those who are in countries with which Ukraine has no social security agreements. Participation in the system allows individuals not to lose experience, and the level of contributions can be determined independently, depending on their capabilities.

Voluntary Participation in Pension Insurance: Who Can Access It

All citizens who are registered as insured persons and are not pensioners can join the system. Contributions can also be paid for other family members. For a month to be counted as insurance experience, the contribution amount must be at least the minimum insurance payment — 1760 UAH per month, which is about 36 euros. Payment is allowed from any country in the world.

How to Conclude a Contract and Pay Contributions Online

The Pension Fund offers a fully digital procedure for completing the contract for voluntary participation. For this, access to a personal account and an electronic signature is required. Contributions can be paid using any bank card through the Portmone service.

Step-by-step instructions for concluding the contract:

• Go to the Pension Fund portal: www.portal.pfu.gov.ua

• In the menu, select the section “Contract for Voluntary Participation”

• Fill out the form and sign with the electronic signature

• Pay contributions at a convenient time and for the necessary amount.

The Pension Fund emphasizes: the place of work and country of residence do not matter — the main thing is that the person is in the insurance system. This allows them to maintain the necessary experience and ensure the continuity of pension rights, even while staying outside Ukraine.
