How to save on transportation in Zhytomyr

The simplest option for passengers who regularly use public transport is to switch from a bank card to a transport card. This saves 2 UAH on each ride.

With two rides daily for 30 days, a passenger will make about 60 trips. Using a transport card instead of a bank card in this scenario allows for approximately 120 UAH saved in the budget per month.

Monthly passes are even more advantageous for frequent passengers:

  • for children - 100 UAH;

  • for students - 200 UAH;

  • for other passengers - 400 UAH.

If one makes 60 rides a month, for an adult, one trip with a pass would actually cost about 6.67 UAH. For a student, it's about 3.33 UAH, and for a child, it's 1.67 UAH.

Why fares in Zhytomyr were increased for the second time this year

The decision on new fares was made by the executive committee of the Zhytomyr City Council on August 14. Deputy Mayor Oleksandr Shevchuk explained the increase by the rise in electricity and fuel costs.

According to him, the actual cost of transporting one passenger by electric transport is 45.86 UAH. Electricity for the municipal enterprise is purchased on the market at a price of up to 17 UAH per kWh.

Private carriers also cite the rising costs of fuel, spare parts, utilities, and driver salaries as reasons for the fare increase. According to their data, the average price of diesel fuel has exceeded 92 UAH per liter.

This is the second fare review in Zhytomyr during 2026. The previous adjustment occurred on March 16, when the fare for electric transport increased by 2 UAH, and for buses by 3 UAH.

It should be noted that the half-marathon is returning to Zhytomyr in support of veterans.
