How many Ukrainians in Poland do not speak Polish

The National Bank of Poland has published an updated report on the situation of Ukrainian immigrants. The research shows that only a small fraction of newcomers do not speak Polish, and the overall level of integration is significantly increasing. This is reported by “InPoland”.

Language integration of Ukrainians in Poland

A survey of 3965 Ukrainians across all voivodeships revealed that most are actively learning the Polish language. According to the report:

• 63% of Ukrainians speak Polish well or fluently

• 33% have a basic level of proficiency

• 4% do not know Polish at all.

Language adaptation is directly related to economic conditions. Among pre-war immigrants, 92% of their income is generated in Poland, while for refugees, it is 78%. At the same time, 36% of refugees and 25% of pre-war migrants work below their qualifications, but the demand for Ukrainians in the IT, construction, and logistics sectors is growing.

Social stability and future plans

Ukrainians are gradually integrating socially as well. 81% provide housing for themselves independently, while 9% have already purchased their own homes. In refugee centers, predominantly people over 45 years old remain. The largest number of Ukrainians live in the Masovian and Lower Silesian voivodeships, accounting for about 6% of the regions' population.

In 2025:

• 51% of pre-war immigrants want to stay in Poland permanently

• 24% of refugees also plan to live there long-term

• more than a third are still undecided.

At the same time, 73% of Ukrainians have someone in Poland they can turn to for help, which indicates strengthening local social ties.
