What is the condition of the roads in Ukraine due to snowfalls on January 9
Due to heavy snowfalls and worsening weather conditions, traffic on state highways in most of Ukraine was complicated on January 9. Road services are operating in an intensified mode, snow cleaning and anti-ice treatment are ongoing. A round-the-clock headquarters for emergency response to the consequences of bad weather is in operation. This is reported by the Ministry of Development of Ukraine.
Road conditions in Ukraine on January 9: where the machinery is operating
According to road services, 1,016 units of machinery and 1,229 workers are involved to ensure traffic. Work is ongoing continuously, particularly in the passes, where 10 to 20 centimeters of snow has fallen overnight, and the air temperature varies from -9 to -7 degrees.
On difficult sections in the Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, and Ternopil regions, rotor snow plows and heavy special equipment are prepared due to strong winds and the risk of snowdrifts. Some machines are already operating on the roads of Ternopil region. In Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, the situation is complicated by freezing rain, which causes a complete glaze.
Restrictions on truck movement due to bad weather
Due to difficult weather conditions, a ban on truck transportation remains in effect on certain sections:
- highways M-06 and N-22 in the Rivne region;
- route M-06 towards Rivne in the Zhytomyr region;
- sections of M-06 in Lviv region towards Rivne;
- highway N-22 in the Volyn region from Lutsk towards Rivne.
Road services will provide additional information about lifting the restrictions.
Drivers are advised to refrain from long trips unless absolutely necessary, carefully plan routes, and take into account difficult weather conditions.
Recall that Ukraine is expecting a sharp drop in temperature: down to -23° and snowfalls up to 25 cm.
