The size of the future pension in Poland depends on accumulated contributions, experience, and even expected life expectancy. A special formula is used for calculating the assistance, and the most accurate data can be obtained through online services. This is reported by inPoland.

Pension in Poland: how the calculation formula works

The pension calculation system for people born after 1948 is based on several key indicators. The formula looks like this:

Pension amount = (initial capital + total contributions) / average life expectancy

Where the following are taken into account:

  • initial capital (for those who worked before 1999),

  • all paid and indexed contributions,

  • statistical life expectancy in months.

It is precisely due to the number of variables that the system seems complex, though the formula itself is quite simple.

Pension calculation in Poland: how to check your amount

The easiest way to calculate your future pension is through the ZUS portal — in the user cabinet PUE ZUS.

There are two main methods:

  • an automatic calculator that pulls all data from the account,

  • a projected calculator where you can manually enter future income.

The system allows you to get the most accurate forecast without the need to manually enter additional data.

Importantly, each additional year of work after reaching retirement age (60 years for women and 65 years for men) significantly increases payments.

The reasons for such growth are:

  • new contributions are added to the pension capital,

  • the projected number of payment months decreases.

As a result, even one additional year of work can increase the pension by approximately 10–15%.

Let us remind you that starting from April 1, 2026, one-time payments for workers who suffered from industrial accidents or received occupational diseases in Poland will be increased.
