Today, December 10, 2025, we celebrate the 205th anniversary of the birth of Oleksandr Petrovych Bakhmatyuk, a renowned Ukrainian master of artistic ceramics. Known by the pseudonym Oleksa or Bakhamatnik, he was born in 1820 in Kosiv, Ivano-Frankivsk region, and died in that same city in 1882.
Bakhmatyuk is a well-known representative of the Kosiv school of ceramics, with his works numbering over a thousand items of decorative and applied ceramics, including majolica. He combined various techniques in decorating his pieces, creating unique works with flandrin painting and colorful clay inserts.
