Details of the murder of the president of the Cypriot club 'Karmiotis'
The renowned Stavros Dimostenus, who was the head of the 'Karmiotis' club, was brutally murdered near his home. This was reported by the police, citing Lenta Cyprus.
According to Lenta Cyprus, two unknown attackers stopped Dimostenus's car with a white van and opened fire as he was driving with his son named Stavros.
Two unidentified criminals blocked Dimostenus's way with a white van. Bullet holes are visible on the roof and windshield of his Rolls-Royce - there were more than 10. Shell casings from 7.62 mm automatic weapons were also found at the crime scene.
The police found a burnt van under one of the bridges, presumably used by the criminals during the attack. Expertise showed that this vehicle was stolen in Nicosia since September 4.
Tragic consequences of the attack
After the attack, Dimostenus's son attempted to take his wounded father to the hospital, but their car got into a traffic accident, and the businessman died before the emergency services arrived.
The case is considered a deliberate murder. Earlier, 'Karmiotis' dropped out of the top division of the Cyprus championship after the 2024/25 season. Stavros Dimostenus has headed the club since 2023.
