Today, December 11, marks 47 years since the birth of Roman Varenytsia. This citizen was born on December 11, 1978, in the village of Staryi Yar in the Yavoriv district of the Lviv region, and he died on February 20, 2014, in Kyiv. Roman was a teacher, an activist of the Revolution of Dignity, a Hero of the Heavenly Hundred, and a Hero of Ukraine (posthumously).
For his civic courage, patriotism, and heroic stance for the constitutional principles of democracy, human rights, and freedoms, as well as his selfless service to the Ukrainian people during the Revolution of Dignity, Roman Varenytsia was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and granted the Order of 'Zolota Zirka'. He also received a posthumous medal from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate 'For Sacrifice and Love for Ukraine'.
Roman Varenytsia is an example of a true patriot and citizen who gave his life for the ideals of freedom and dignity. His actions and contribution to the events of the Revolution of Dignity will always be remembered and honored in Ukrainian society.
