Commemoration of the memory of Anatoliy Ohiyevskyi
On August 31, 2026, we will celebrate 132 years since the birth of the outstanding hydrologist Anatoliy Volodymyrovych Ohiyevskyi, who made a significant contribution to the development of hydrological science in Ukraine. Ohiyevskyi, a Doctor of Technical Sciences since 1936 and a professor since 1937, is one of the founders of the hydrological school in Ukraine. He was born on August 31, 1894, in the city of Starodub, now Bryansk Oblast, Russia, and he passed away on April 3, 1952, in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Anatoliy Ohiyevskyi developed the macro-genetic theory of river runoff formation, as well as a methodology for determining the maximum outflow of meltwater, which can be applied both in the presence of observations and in their absence. In addition, he created methods for hydrological forecasting for the rivers of Ukraine.
Ohiyevskyi was the nephew of the scientist-forester V. D. Ohiyevskyi and a cousin of the scientist-radio engineer V. V. Ohiyevskyi. His scientific legacy continues to influence the development of hydrology in Ukraine.
