Mykola Charnevsky, who was a bishop, a doctor of theology, a martyr and a blessed one, was born in 1884 in the village of Semakivtsi, which is now in the Kolomyia district of Ivano-Frankivsk region. He dedicated his life to religious and educational work in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and died in 1959 in Lviv.
Charnevsky became an archbishop and a missionary, and from 1909 he was a doctor of theology. Starting his career after getting to know the monks of the Order of the Most Holy Redeemer in Galicia, he entered the novitiate of the Redemptorist Fathers in 1919 and soon made his first monastic vows.
