Ukraine celebrates the Day of Remembrance of the Participants in the Elimination of the Consequences of the Accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant on December 14.
UN General Assembly Resolution
On the eve of this date, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution proposed by Ukraine regarding the overcoming of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. The document recognizes the long-term effects of the accident and the necessity of ongoing international support for the affected communities and territories.
More than 600,000 people sacrificed their health, risking their lives as liquidators of the largest man-made disaster of the 20th century, to protect Ukraine and the rest of the world.
UN Concern
“We express serious concern over the damage to the new safe confinement at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant as a result of a Russian drone attack,” the UN resolution noted.
The document also officially approved the use of the Ukrainian transliteration Chornobyl, instead of Chernobyl.
Today we honor the heroic deed of the liquidators and express gratitude to our international partners for supporting Ukraine in this difficult task.
