Conviction for Rape in Odesa Region

A 74-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the rape of 13 boys aged between 8 and 14 years in the Odesa region. The investigation lasted 4.5 years, with the crimes committed during 2020. The accused, who worked as a watchman at a local cultural center, began his criminal activities at the age of 17. He has been prosecuted five times, and in total, he spent 20 years behind bars for sexual offenses.

According to the Odesa regional prosecutor's office, the man abused and molested some children five times in a row. The guilt of the accused is confirmed by results from a series of forensic examinations, including complex outpatient psychological-psychiatric assessments, and testimonies from the victims. It is known that the man lured children by promising them to play video games or on their phones, as well as to treat them to sweets. After that, he would lock the door from the inside of the rented apartment, ingratiate himself with the boys, and harm them. After committing the crimes, the man would take the children outside and warn them not to tell anyone about it. When asked by neighbors, he would respond that his grandchildren were visiting him.

Sexual Violence in Poltava Region
