Ukraine to Implement Hourly Power Outage Schedules Starting January 17

Україна запроваджує нові графіки відключень електропостачання з 17 січня.

Hourly Power Outage Schedules in Ukraine

Hourly schedules for electricity blackouts will be activated across Ukraine on January 17, 2023. This measure is a direct consequence of Russian missile and drone attacks on the country's energy infrastructure, which have critically undermined the stability of the national power grid. The planned outages will affect all regions of Ukraine.

Maxim Timchenko, CEO of DTEK, has warned that this winter will be the most challenging since the start of the full-scale invasion:

The Ukrainian energy system is currently experiencing a severe shortage of backup power capacity, further complicating the electricity supply situation. This crisis is part of the wider impact of Russia's ongoing war, which has targeted civilian infrastructure.

Guidance for Consumers

Given the fluid nature of the energy situation, consumers are advised to check the official websites of their regional power distribution companies (oblenergos) for specific outage times and durations at their addresses.

The introduction of hourly outage schedules is a wartime measure aimed at preserving the overall stability of the power grid. These disruptions are expected to significantly impact daily life for Ukrainians, potentially hindering business operations and household routines. With the energy system in a critical state, staying informed about potential blackouts and adjusting plans accordingly is essential for the public.
