Ukraine’s Revamped Social Support System for Families
A newly updated social support framework for families with children has been rolled out across Ukraine, covering benefits from pregnancy through the return to work. As of the publication date, close to 170,000 households have already received state payouts under this system. The overhaul was launched earlier this year and includes several distinct types of assistance.
Types of Assistance
- Nearly 20,000 women have received pregnancy and childbirth benefits. The monthly payment for this category is set at 7,000 hryvnias.
- Approximately 28,000 mothers who gave birth after January 1, 2026, have received a one-time childbirth allowance of 50,000 hryvnias.
- Childcare payments for children up to age one have been allocated to over 114,000 families, with a monthly benefit of 7,000 hryvnias.
- For parents returning to work after their child turns one, the eYasla program offers support. More than 5,280 families are currently receiving funds through this initiative, with monthly payments of 8,000 hryvnias.
Starting in March, parents can open special accounts at Oschadbank to receive these payments.
‘We are now finalizing efforts so that all child benefits can be applied for through Diia and received on a single card. We are also preparing a decision to review the deadlines for using the funds,’ stated Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
Ultimately, the updated social support system aims to ease the financial burden on families with children and provide essential aid at key life stages. A critical feature of this system is the convenience of applying for benefits, which is planned to be facilitated through the Diia platform—a move that could significantly simplify the process for many households. This underscores the government’s focus on supporting families, especially during challenging times.
As the government continues to enhance its support for families, the introduction of a universal special account for child benefits promises to streamline the application process even further. This new system aims to simplify how families access their entitlements, making it easier than ever to manage financial support.
