170 Clashes and 82 Airstrikes in One Day: Ukraine’s General Staff Reports Intense Frontline Activity

As of 10:00 PM on May 12, 2023, the battlefield saw 170 combat engagements, signaling a significant escalation in hostilities. Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces carried out 82 airstrikes, dropped 225 guided bombs, deployed 5,516 kamikaze drones, and launched a total of 2,296 artillery and rocket attacks on Ukrainian positions and populated areas. These figures underscore the extreme pressure along the front lines.

Frontline Situation

The heaviest fighting occurred on the Pokrovsk axis, where Ukrainian forces eliminated 66 Russian soldiers and wounded 26 others. In this sector, nine enemy vehicles were destroyed, along with one shelter. Additionally, five vehicles, 16 shelters, and one drone command post were damaged. Ukrainian troops also neutralized or suppressed 208 drones of various types in this area.

On the North-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk axes, the enemy launched five airstrikes using 15 guided bombs and conducted 62 shelling attacks, four of which involved multiple rocket launchers (MLRS). One enemy assault attempt was recorded here. On the South-Slobozhanskyi axis, Russian forces attacked five times near Starytsia, Kruhle, Kolodiazhne, and Radkivka.

On the Kupiansk axis, the enemy launched a single assault toward Novoplatonivka, while on the Lyman axis, Ukrainian defenders repelled three attacks near Stavky and Ozerne. On the Sloviansk axis, one assault was attempted toward Rai-Oleksandrivka. On the Kostiantynivka axis, occupiers launched 25 assaults on positions in the following areas:

  • Sofiivka
  • Nove Shakhove
  • Vilne
  • Kostiantynivka
  • Novopavlivka
  • Kucherovyi Yar

On the Pokrovsk axis, the enemy conducted 24 attacks, while on the Huliaipole axis, 11 assaults were recorded. On the Orikhiv axis, Russian forces attacked four times near Mali Shcherbaky, Stepove, and Charivne. Today marks the 1,539th day of Russia’s full-scale war in Ukraine.

The surge in combat across multiple sectors, particularly around Pokrovsk, highlights the significant military efforts being made by both sides. The intensity of shelling and airstrikes suggests the enemy is trying to reinforce its positions and inflict maximum damage on Ukrainian forces.
