Meteorologists are warning of a significant deterioration in weather conditions across Ukraine on February 19. The country is set to experience heavy snowfall, blizzards, ice accretion (glaze ice), and strong winds in several regions. This severe winter weather follows a period of active storms and official warnings. Specifically, significant snow and blizzards are forecast overnight into February 19 for the following oblasts:

  • Kirovohrad Oblast
  • Cherkasy Oblast
  • Poltava Oblast
  • Sumy Oblast

Wind gusts of 15-20 m/s are expected in southern and most central regions overnight, intensifying in the Left Bank areas during the day. A first-level (yellow) hazard warning has been issued due to icy roads across the country, except for the southeast and Zakarpattia. In Kyiv and its region, drivers are being cautioned about slippery road conditions.

The forecast for Kyiv on February 19 predicts overcast skies. Moderate snow is expected overnight, with light snow in some areas during the day. A predominantly westerly wind of 7-12 m/s is anticipated. Temperatures will drop to -9 to -11°C overnight and range from -4 to -6°C during the daytime.

This alert follows earlier warnings on February 18 about dangerous meteorological phenomena in Ukraine. Furthermore, on February 17, Kyiv municipal inspectors issued hundreds of notices and protocols to property owners for failing to clear ice and snow from sidewalks and adjacent areas.

Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution and account for the hazardous conditions, particularly the risk of black ice.
