Ukraine celebrates Children's Day for the first time: what it means in war

Діти України вітали своє свято попри непрості часи: як проходять урочистості під час війни.

Ukraine celebrated Children's Day for the first time on November 20, together with other countries around the world. This holiday was officially approved by the Presidential Decree of Ukraine. On this day, in 1959 and 1989, the United Nations General Assembly adopted important documents on children's rights - the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Children's Day serves as a reminder to adults of their responsibility towards children and the importance of protecting their rights. Every child has the right to life, education, care, safety, and love. Ukrainian children who have experienced war are forced to mature earlier than their age due to circumstances. Today, children in dangerous areas face daily risks and limitations.

The Ukrainian authorities ensure the protection of children, evacuating them from danger zones, providing assistance, and psychological support. They are also working on policies regarding temporarily occupied territories to support all those who remain in these areas.

Ukraine has joined the global movement for the protection of children's rights, adhering to international standards, and striving to do everything possible to ensure that every child in its territory is protected and safe. The Children's Day holiday reminds everyone of the importance of care and attention to the future of the country - the children who make up its future.
