Weather Forecast for Ukraine on February 20, 2025
Ukraine is set to experience a stark temperature divide across its regions on February 20, 2025, alongside hazardous road conditions due to ice and precipitation. A sharp contrast will see the north gripped by freezing temperatures, while the south experiences a notable warm-up. Icing on roads is anticipated across almost the entire country, with only the southeast and the Zakarpattia region expected to be spared.
In northern regions, overnight lows are forecast to range from -4 to -10 degrees Celsius, with possible light snowfall. Daytime temperatures there will drop further to between -1 and -6 degrees. Conversely, in Zakarpattia, the south, and southeast, nighttime readings will be milder, from +2 to -4 degrees, with daytime highs varying from +1 to +7 degrees. Crimea is expected to see the warmest conditions, with a maximum temperature reaching +12 degrees.
Conditions in the Kyiv Region
The Kyiv region will face severe overnight frosts, plunging as low as -15 degrees Celsius. In the capital city itself, nighttime temperatures will hover between -10 and -12 degrees, with a daytime range of -2 to -4 degrees. While no precipitation is forecast for Kyiv, meteorologists warn of potential ice forming on roadways. According to the Ukrhydrometcentre,
"in Zakarpattia, the Precarpathian region, most central regions during the day, and in eastern regions, moderate precipitation is expected, primarily in the form of snow."
These weather conditions are likely to significantly disrupt transport across Ukraine, particularly in the northern and central areas where frost and ice will create dangerous driving conditions. Drivers are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and check the forecast before traveling. Such a pronounced north-south temperature split is unusual for late winter and can also pose challenges for agricultural planning. The forecast highlights the country's diverse climate, which can shift dramatically over relatively short distances.
