Honoring the Memory of Ivan Andriyovych Bank
June 21, 2026, marks 40 years since the birth of Ivan Andriyovych Bank, a posthumously awarded Hero of Ukraine and a serviceman of the Armed Forces who gave his life defending the nation's independence. Born on June 21, 1986, in the village of Vilnyi Step, Poltava Raion, Poltava Oblast, Bank served in the 95th Air Assault Brigade based in Zhytomyr, under contract from 2004 to 2011. This brigade is known for its rapid deployment capabilities and has been a key unit in Ukraine's defense operations.
Bank took part in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and Yugoslavia, and also completed military training exercises in Germany and the Czech Republic. Following the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian war, he was actively involved in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine starting in 2014, notably covering the withdrawal from Donetsk Airport. Tragically, his life was cut short on September 12, 2022, near the village of Bilohirka in Beryslav Raion, Kherson Oblast. He was laid to rest on September 15, 2022, in his native village of Vilnyi Step.
