Weather Forecast for Ukraine, February 26
The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center forecasts a cloudy day across Ukraine on February 26. Eastern and southeastern regions will see wet snow, while icy road conditions are expected to create widespread travel hazards. Air temperatures throughout the day will range from -2 to +3 degrees Celsius.
Icy roads are anticipated overnight and into the morning across most of the country, except for the southern regions and Zakarpattia. In the Carpathian Mountains, light snow is expected overnight with temperatures plunging to between -7 and -12 degrees Celsius. The east and southeast face the possibility of wet snow accumulation, while southern areas will experience strong wind gusts of 15-18 m/s during the day.
Weather Conditions in the Kyiv Region
Cloudy skies are also forecast for Kyiv and the surrounding region, with no precipitation expected. However, icy roads are likely overnight and in the morning. In the capital, nighttime temperatures will drop to between -3 and -5 degrees Celsius, rising to around 0 degrees during the day. A predominantly northern wind will blow at 5-10 m/s. Across the wider Kyiv region, overnight lows will range from -1 to -6 degrees, with daytime highs between -2 and +3 degrees Celsius.
These weather conditions are likely to cause significant disruptions to road travel, with black ice substantially increasing the risk of traffic accidents. Such winter weather events are common in the region during late February. The combination of wet snow and strong winds in the south may also strain the power grid and disrupt transportation services. Drivers are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and to factor these hazardous conditions into their travel plans.
