Ukraine to Implement Hourly Power Cuts and Industrial Restrictions Starting January 30, 2026

В Україні розпочнуть поетапне обмеження електропостачання та промислової діяльності з 30 січня 2026 року.

Hourly Electricity Blackouts in Ukraine

Beginning January 30, 2026, Ukraine will introduce scheduled hourly electricity blackouts and power restrictions for industrial consumers. These measures are a direct result of Russian missile and drone attacks on the nation's energy infrastructure, which have critically damaged the power grid. The ongoing conflict has left Ukraine's energy system highly vulnerable and in need of drastic management.

Details on the timing and scale of the outages will be available on the official websites of regional power distribution companies (oblenergos). Consumers are urged to use electricity sparingly when it is available, as the situation within the energy system remains volatile. Ukrenergo, the national energy company, has called on citizens to follow all consumption guidelines to help reduce the strain on the network.

Guidelines for Consumers

To assist the public, Nova Poshta postal service branches will offer free device charging stations. However, the following restrictions will be in place:

  • Using hair dryers is prohibited;
  • Connecting charging stations with a power output exceeding 300 W/h is forbidden;
  • Operating any high-energy-consumption devices is banned.

The energy crisis, triggered by Russian strikes and exacerbated by colder weather, has already inflicted tens of billions of hryvnias in direct and indirect losses on Ukraine's economy.

The implementation of scheduled blackouts underscores the severe challenges facing Ukraine's energy infrastructure amid continued aggression. While these steps aim to stabilize the national grid, they also highlight the war's profound impact on daily life and the national economy. Adherence to the energy companies' recommendations is crucial for both citizens and businesses to mitigate the worst effects of this crisis.
