Rescue Mission Overview
The 425th Separate Assault Regiment, known as 'Skelya,' executed a daring operation to free 21 servicemen from the 159th Separate Mechanized Brigade who had been trapped by Russian forces. Remarkably, the entire rescue was carried out without any Ukrainian casualties, and several enemy combatants were captured during the mission.
The troops of the 159th Brigade had been stationed on frontline positions in an unnamed village for over 10 months without rotation. Surrounded by opposing forces, they found themselves cut off with no viable means to escape. In this dire situation, they recorded a video plea for assistance addressed to the 'Skelya' unit, prompting the 425th Assault Regiment to organize an urgent evacuation operation.
Details of the Operation
To facilitate the safe withdrawal of the encircled soldiers, the assault unit had to engage in combat to clear a path through enemy lines. Representatives of the regiment explained,
“Our fighters had to fight and clear the route to enable the 159th Brigade groups to break out of encirclement.”The battle control officer of the 425th, known by the call sign 'Yevrey,' confirmed that no Ukrainian lives were lost during the extraction.
In the course of their assault, the 425th Regiment also neutralized several Russian positions and captured multiple enemy soldiers to bolster Ukraine’s prisoner exchange resources. This successful mission not only secured the safe return of 21 Ukrainian defenders but also highlighted the regiment’s coordination and effectiveness under extreme pressure.
