On April 16, the geomagnetic situation remains calm, but in the coming days it will change — a magnetic storm of level G1 is approaching Earth. Activity is expected to rise by the end of April 17. This is reported by UNIAN.

Magnetic storm in April 2026: when to expect a peak in activity

According to the British Geological Survey, the speed of the solar wind is currently at background levels, so on April 16 and most of the 17th, the geomagnetic situation will be stable.

However, by the end of Friday, the situation will change. A coronal hole on the Sun will begin to influence Earth, gradually increasing geomagnetic activity. The main impact is expected on April 18 — a G1 level storm is predicted, which corresponds to approximately 5 points.

G1 level magnetic storms: how they affect people and technology

Experts note that G1 level magnetic storms are considered weak but can cause certain changes in both people's well-being and the functioning of technical systems.

Possible major consequences include:

  • slight fatigue and headaches

  • mood swings in meteorologically sensitive individuals

  • minor disruptions in satellite operations

  • short-term communication outages.

Such phenomena occur due to the interaction of solar wind streams with Earth's magnetic field. At the same time, they do not pose a serious threat.

During the storm, it is also possible for auroras to shift closer to southern latitudes than usual. Overall, these geomagnetic fluctuations are a natural phenomenon and rarely have significant consequences.
