A veteran of the Russo-Ukrainian war, he first served with Kyiv’s territorial defense forces before becoming a special forces officer. At the time of his death, Tarakhkalo commanded a company in the 40th Regiment named after Colonel D. Nechai of the National Guard of Ukraine. He was carrying out a combat mission near the village of Shyikivka in the Izium district when he fell. In recognition of his bravery, he was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously in 2023.
