It is known that Ukrainians adopted 589 orphans in the first six months of 2025. In particular, 199 children were under three years old, 160 were between three and six years old, 148 were between six and eleven years old, and 82 were over eleven years old. The most adoptions were registered in Kyiv (67 children), Dnipropetrovsk (66), Odesa (49), Zakarpattia (47), and Zhytomyr (37) regions.

As in previous periods, there is a discrepancy between the wishes of prospective adoptive parents and the real possibilities of adopting children of different ages.

Currently, there are 2,276 candidates registered for adoption, but only 1,625 of them are willing to adopt children aged five to ten years. Meanwhile, 14,679 children are awaiting adoption, of which 10,628 are aged ten and older, and 10,226 children belong to sibling groups, making their adoption more complicated as they have brothers or sisters who are also looking for a new family.

The need for more adopters

Adoption is a unique opportunity for children to find a loving family forever. It is very important to provide this opportunity for 11,078 children who are already growing up in family care but dream of having their own parents. The highest number of such children is found in regions such as Dnipropetrovsk (2,129), Odesa (1,155), Kharkiv (926), as well as in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Summary:
In the first six months of 2025, Ukrainians adopted 589 orphans, however, many children or candidates for adoption remain unattended due to the discrepancy between the wishes of adopters and real possibilities. The greatest need for new families is for children aged ten and older, as well as for those belonging to sibling groups.
