80% of AWOL cases in the Armed Forces of Ukraine: MP Kostenko named the main reason for desertion

Військові дезертири: депутат Костенко окреслив ключові причини втечі зі служби.

The problem of desertion in Ukraine

MP Roman Kostenko reported a high percentage of service members abandoning their posts in Ukraine, particularly in training centers. According to him, 80% of cases of desertion occur at this stage of military service. Kostenko emphasized the need to implement clear rules for such cases, stressing that this issue is extremely important for the country's security.

Measures to improve the situation

Roman Kostenko, who is an MP from the 'Golos' party and the secretary of the security committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, noted that measures are needed to improve the situation. He proposed:

  • increasing salaries for service members with longer service;
  • introducing contracts for young individuals aged 18-24;
  • substantial rewards for completing combat tasks, such as 'destroy a tank - receive 10,000 dollars'.
'80% of desertions are from training centers, and I believe that punishment is necessary for this.' Roman Kostenko

Thus, Roman Kostenko emphasizes the need for a systematic approach to solving the problem of service members abandoning their posts, which he believes is critically important for ensuring stability and security in the country.

The problem of military personnel deserting their posts in Ukraine is becoming increasingly relevant, especially in the context of active hostilities and heightened demands for military discipline. The high percentage of desertions from training centers may indicate insufficient motivation among military personnel, as well as a lack of proper conditions for service. The measures proposed by Kostenko could impact the reduction of this phenomenon and improve the overall situation in the army.
