87 Injured in Kyiv After Russian Strike Hits Lukyanivka District

Внаслідок російського обстрілу в районі Лук'янівки постраждали 87 осіб.

Aftermath of the Attack in Kyiv

Cleanup operations are underway in Kyiv’s Lukyanivka neighborhood following a massive Russian strike that occurred on the night of May 24. The attack damaged a metro station, destroyed the Kvadrat shopping center, and left multiple residential buildings in ruins. A historic market suffered especially severe losses, burning down as a result of the shelling. In total, 87 people were injured, including three minors. Among the damaged structures was a building housing the residence of Albania’s ambassador to Ukraine.

Post-Strike Situation

Russian forces deployed ballistic and hypersonic missiles, along with hundreds of attack drones and decoys. The cost of this single assault is estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Due to the destruction, spontaneous street trading has begun to spread around the ruined market. Local residents report that they continue to sell goods despite the attack.

“We used to trade at the market, and now we’ve lost our jobs, so we moved here because the merchandise is going to waste. We keep selling even after the shelling—life goes on.” – A female vendor

A McDonald’s restaurant that was also damaged in the May 24 attack has since resumed operations. Rescue efforts are ongoing, and the city is striving to return to normal life, though the impact of the strike remains deeply felt.

This attack is part of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has now lasted for several years. The destruction not only harms infrastructure but also affects the economic situation in the region. Rebuilding the damaged facilities could take a long time, and restoring life in the affected areas will require coordinated efforts from both the state and the local community.

The aftermath of the recent attack has raised serious concerns about civilian safety, with reports now indicating that the death toll has tragically increased. As rescue operations continue in Kyiv, the discovery of human remains adds to the urgency of addressing the escalating violence in the region. The situation remains critical as authorities work to assess the full impact of the strike and provide support to affected families.
