In Zaporizhzhia, they want to increase funding for the electric transport development program by almost 900 million UAH. The city plans to purchase new trolleybuses and electric buses with the support of the European Investment Bank. This is reported by Forpost.
What electric transport will Zaporizhzhia purchase
The city council is considering a project to increase funding for the municipal enterprise «Zaporizhelectrotrans» from 842.7 million UAH to 900.4 million UAH in 2026.
The largest amount of funds is planned to be directed specifically towards updating the rolling stock.
Expenses for the purchase of trolleybuses and electric buses are set to increase from 294 million UAH to 351.8 million UAH.
As part of the program, the city is set to receive:
- 10 new low-floor trolleybuses;
- 21 modern electric buses.
What is special about the new trolleybuses for Zaporizhzhia
A contract for the supply of trolleybuses in 2025 was signed with the Ukrainian company «TD LITAN».
The total cost of the agreement exceeds 4 million euros.
The new transport will have an autonomous range of up to 20 kilometers without a contact network, which is especially important for the city given the regular Russian shelling and damage to infrastructure.
The trolleybuses will also be adapted for people in wheelchairs and passengers with guide dogs.
Why the city is increasing funding for transport
The explanatory note states that part of the grant funds in 2025 was not received on time, so funding was postponed to 2026.
The volume of grant support from the European Investment Bank is expected to increase to nearly 147.5 million UAH.
Amid the renewal of transport in Zaporizhzhia, there is also an ongoing discussion regarding fares due to increased costs for electricity, fuel, and staff shortages.
