Marking the 95th Birth Anniversary of Ivan Mykhailovych Dziuba
July 26 marks the 95th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Mykhailovych Dziuba, a renowned literary critic, public figure, statesman, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and former Minister of Culture. His contributions to Ukrainian literature and cultural policy remain highly influential, especially in the context of post-Soviet identity formation. Born on this date in 1931 in the village of Mykolaivka (now in the Volnovakha district of Donetsk region), Dziuba came from a peasant family and grew up in the settlement of Olenivski Kariery, which is today the city of Dokuchaevsk.
He earned a teaching qualification after studying at the Stalin State Pedagogical Institute from 1949 to 1953. In 1992, he was elected academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and served as Ukraine's Minister of Culture from 1992 to 1994. Ivan Mykhailovych Dziuba passed away on February 22, 2022, in Kyiv.
