Aaron Ramsey Retires from Football
Former Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey has announced his retirement from professional football. His final club was Mexican side UNAM, where he played in the latter half of 2025. Prior to his move to Mexico, Ramsey had served in a player-coach capacity for a club in the English Championship. His retirement marks the end of a distinguished career for one of Wales's most celebrated modern footballers.
Ramsey began his professional career at Cardiff City, making his debut in the 2005/06 season. He joined London's Arsenal in 2008, spending a decade there with loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City. In the summer of 2019, he moved to Juventus in Turin and, after two seasons with the Italian club, played on loan for Scottish side Rangers. He also spent one season with French club Nice. In 2023, Ramsey returned to Cardiff City, but the club was relegated to League One.
A serious injury sustained in Mexico proved to be the final chapter of his playing days. Throughout his professional career, Ramsey won three FA Cups and two Community Shields with Arsenal, became a Serie A champion with Juventus, and lifted the Scottish Cup with Rangers.
