The situation with apples in Ukraine
Apples in Ukraine have remained one of the most expensive staple fruits for the third season in a row. Despite a successful harvest in 2025, a drop in prices in 2026 is not forecasted. This is due to the market adapting to high prices, as well as significant export of quality products from Ukraine.
In Ukraine, apples maintain their status as one of the most expensive staple fruits. The peak price for apples is expected at the end of spring, indicating a possible increase in prices in April-May. According to the coordinator of the EastFruit Weekly Ukraine project, Oleksandr Khorev, predicting price changes for the whole year is quite complicated. He notes that during storage, quality apples are gradually sold off, and they become less available in the market.
Reasons for the high cost of apples
Among the main reasons for the high cost of apples, three factors can be highlighted:
- market adaptation to high prices;
- lack of competition;
- export factor.
These circumstances create a situation where prices for apples remain consistently high, despite positive news about the harvest. Thus, Ukrainian consumers should not expect a decrease in apple prices in the near future.
The situation on the apple market in Ukraine demonstrates how external and internal factors can influence pricing. High prices may be caused not only by demand but also by export opportunities, highlighting the importance of the agricultural sector for the country's economy. In this regard, consumers should be prepared for price stability on fruits, which may impact their expenses in a changing economic environment.
