Verdict Delivered by the High Anti-Corruption Court
On June 9, the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) announced its ruling against lawyer Oleksiy Nosov, who was found guilty of attempting to bribe prosecutors from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO). The court imposed a prison sentence of 4.5 years. Additionally, Nosov has been barred from practicing law for a period of three years.
Bribery Attempt and Consequences
The lawyer was caught in 2024 while trying to offer a $200,000 bribe in exchange for a decision to transfer a criminal case involving his client. The case concerned the misappropriation of electricity from the state-owned company NPC Ukrenergo, involving the laundering of funds totaling 716 million Ukrainian hryvnias. The court also ordered the special confiscation of $100,000 in funds. The HACC verdict can be appealed within 30 days. Notably, on June 5, 2024, Nosov was officially notified of suspicion regarding the bribery attempt. He was a partner at the law firm Miller, which was founded by public figure and lawyer Masi Nayyem. The Miller firm stated it was severing all ties with Oleksiy Nosov and also reported that investigative actions were being taken against him.
