Ukrainian military personnel decided to use sports planes to counter enemy drones. Instead of machine guns, pilots and gunners on the Yak-52 use automatics, as these planes are not designed for heavy weapon installation. The pilots work in pairs, where the pilot brings the plane close to the target, and the gunner opens fire on the drone.

Instead of modern weaponry, pilots and gunners on the Yak-52 use standard issue weapons – automatics, as there is no provision for installing machine guns on these planes.

Pilot Nikolai explained that due to the sports purpose of the aircraft, there is no possibility for installing a machine gun, so they use their personal weapons for shooting. The crew works in pairs, where the pilot brings the plane close to the target, and the gunner opens fire on the enemy drone.

Members of the Yak-52 light aircraft squad emphasized the high reliability of this technology in shooting down drones. Even in the presence of electronic interference, the planes continue to carry out missions; however, their work is limited to daylight and good visibility.

Thus, Ukrainian military personnel decided to take advantage of compact sports planes to combat enemy drones, applying such an unconventional yet effective strategy. They successfully combined the experience of past wars with modern technologies to ensure safety and security in the air.
