Philologist Olha Vasylieva revealed the secret of how to properly name the residents of various cities in Ukraine. Thus, residents of Kamianske should now be called kam'yanchany, and not otherwise. She explained that this is due to the presence of the specific suffix -ets in the name of the city. The same principle applies to other settlements, where their origin is reflected in their names.
“For example, -chany forms names only from those settlements whose names include the suffix -yts-, -ets-, -tsyk-, -ts-, -ch-, -k-. For instance, from Vinnytsia we get vinnychany, and from Chernivtsi – chernivchany.”
Moreover, the linguist advises using Ukrainian terms, such as 'znestrumlennia' instead of the English 'blackout', to promote the native language. This helps preserve and develop Ukrainian linguistics.
Interestingly, earlier, Olha Vasylieva shared useful linguistic discoveries that made her an authoritative specialist in the field of linguistics.
