These Plants Attract Ticks: Experts Named Dangerous Species for the Garden

Experts warn that there are plants that are better not to plant on the site due to their ability to attract ticks. These insects can be carriers of diseases, including Lyme disease. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid planting such plants as barberry, pines with low branches, lush ornamental grasses, buckthorn, oak, fern, sumac, honeysuckle, plane trees, and arborvitae.



Experts recommend weighing all the disadvantages and advantages before growing these plants, as they can create conditions for the reproduction and penetration of ticks onto your site. Some plants, such as garlic mustard, which harm other plants, can also affect the population of these harmful insects.



Barberry. Its dense branches form thickets and are used to create hedges in landscape design. According to experts, this leads to increased humidity, which ticks love.


Pines with branches that are close to the ground. The combination of shade and low branches attracts pests. Ticks usually do not climb high into trees, so pines with such branches provide excellent shelter for these insects.


Experts' recommendations for avoiding ticks on the site: avoid planting the mentioned plants, carefully select plants for landscape design, take good care of the plants, and carry out preventive measures to reduce the risk of encountering these pests.
