Ukrainians were reminded about the features of issuing foreign passports for children if one of the parents is a citizen of another country. In this case, when submitting documents, it is necessary to additionally confirm the child's citizenship. Without this, it will be impossible to obtain a Ukrainian citizen passport for traveling abroad. This was reported by the State Migration Service.
What Documents are Needed to Confirm Citizenship
The Migration Service explained that a foreign passport is a document that confirms the citizenship of Ukraine of its owner.
If one of the child's parents does not have Ukrainian citizenship, it is necessary to provide a document that confirms the child's affiliation to Ukrainian citizenship.
Such a document is a certificate of registration of a person as a citizen of Ukraine.
When is a Certificate of Citizenship Issued
The certificate confirms that one of the following decisions has been made regarding the child:
- about establishing belonging to Ukrainian citizenship;
- about accepting into Ukrainian citizenship;
- about issuing acquisition of citizenship of Ukraine.
This document is used for further processing of a Ukrainian citizen passport and other documents that certify citizenship.
What Else Parents Should Know
The SSM reminded that the absence of a registered place of residence is not a reason for refusal to issue the first passport of a Ukrainian citizen in the form of an ID card after reaching the age of 14.
In this case, documents can be submitted at the actual place of residence. This rule applies only during the first issuance of the passport.
Also, recently, rules for citizens aged 65 and older were changed. From now on, ID cards for this category of Ukrainians are issued indefinitely and do not require regular exchange every ten years.
