Legendary Soviet and Russian footballer Vladimir Ponomaryov drew attention to the low level of pension payments in Russia. He believes that the average pension in the country should be no less than 50,000 rubles (about $500) to allow pensioners to live on that money. Ponomaryov urged the authorities to raise the level of pensions to ensure a decent existence for pensioners.
«I believe that the current pensions in Russia are unfair. Half of them goes to utility bills - this is unacceptable. Only pennies are left for living. How can pensioners survive? The average pension in Russia should be at least 50,000. With that money, one can live more or less. Of course, pensioners won't be going to restaurants or buying good clothes, but this is a reasonable amount,» the athlete emphasized.
Ponomaryov emphasized the necessity of addressing pension issues at the government level. He believes that pension reform should be a priority since a decent life for people in old age depends on it.
