Asylum in the EU: statistics for November 2025
According to Eurostat, in November 2025, 54,825 people from outside the EU applied for international protection for the first time. This is 26% lower than in November 2024 and 12% lower than in October 2025.
The number of repeated applications was 11,455. Compared to the same period in 2024, this is an increase of 62%, but compared to October 2025, the figure decreased by 23%.
The largest number of applications came from
-
Venezuela - 8,060 applications;
-
Afghanistan - 5,125;
-
Bangladesh - 3,585;
-
Syria - 2,365.
EU countries with the largest number of protection applications
Italy satisfied 12,195 asylum applications, becoming the leader among EU states. Next in line were:
-
Spain - 11,875;
-
France - 8,845;
-
Germany - 8,740.
Asylum provides special legal protection for individuals who face persecution due to political beliefs, religion, ethnic origin, or membership in a particular social group.
The large influx of asylum seekers affects the European labor market. Due to the aging population, the EU faces a labor shortage, and most migrants are of working age. Meanwhile, studies show that their employment rate is, on average, 10% lower than that of local workers, attributed to language barriers and uncertain legal status.
Statistics indicate a general decrease in the number of new asylum applications, yet the migration factor remains significant for Europe's economy.
Recall that in 2025, France ranked first with over 40,000 applications, Spain was second with more than 39,000 applications, and Germany was third with over 37,000.
